BLOGTOBER DAY 5: TOP 13 HALLOWEEN MOVIES

Tuesday, October 13, 2015

Let's face it. October is a month full of awesome movies. They range from family friendly flicks to jump scares galore and everything in between. Since it is in fact October 13th, I thought it was appropriated to list my TOP 13 HALLOWEEN MOVIES OF ALL TIME! So without further ado, let's get started!

13. Young Frankenstein (1974)
Young Frankenstein is a parody of the famous tale of the man-made monster who was afraid of fire. It is a classic horror comedy that will leave the silliest songs stuck in your head for ages and have you randomly yelling "PUTTIN' ON THE RITZ!" (Don't be surprised when people who haven't seen it think you're crazy) It's a must watch for all ages and gives the younger generation a taste of the beauty of black and white film!

12. Halloweentown (1998)
Okay, some of y'all might be wondering why in the world I included this movie in my Top 13 and to tell you the truth, it's my childhood! Ever since it came out, I had tuned into Disney Channel to watch it and every other Halloweentown movie that premiered. Even today, I strive to stay up until 3 am to watch it because apparently Disney Channel is now too cool for the old Halloween movies to be on at normal times (#salty)! This movie will make you want to be a witch and run around screaming "Trapa!" hoping to reverse any spell around!

11. Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975)
Rocky Horror picture show is probably one of the weirdest movies I've ever seen but it's one that I will not stop watching. Since there is sexual scenes and nudity within the movie, I highly recommend no children watch it but if you're older, it's a must see! The songs throughout the film are also so catchy they will definitely be stuck in your head for days! The Time Warp will surly take you to an extremely different and entertaining world!

10. The Addams Family (1991)
The Addams Family is the one spooky family that we all would love to be a part of. It doesn't matter how dark the family is, they will always put each other first before anything else. The dark humor in this movie makes you want to hang out with all the crazy characters even more (especially Cousin It)! This is a must watch movie along with the sequel, Addams Family Values!

9. Interview with the Vampire (1994)
This film features the ultimate all-star cast including Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise, Kirsten Dunst, and Antonio Banderas. It follows the life of a vampire and allows the viewer to get a look inside what it really is like to be one. There are scary, sad, and happy moments in the movie taking you on an emotional roller coaster but it's definitely worth it. The story is amazingly written and keeps you engaged the entire movie!

8. Evil Dead (2013)
This remake of the 1981 original is so good, I probably wouldn't be able to count how many times I've watched it. It follows the story of the original movie extremely well with just a tad bit more of the scare factor (21st century CGI).  This movie has the perfect mix of demonic possession and gore (my fave) without either one overbearing the other and keeps you guessing. How many more times can you say "I think it's ov- Oh my god, I did not see that coming"? Plenty more.

7. The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)
Tim Burton movies are the training wheels for those who are starting to watch scary movies. They give the perfect amount of creepiness to a story aimed for all ages. The Nightmare Before Christmas was probably the first somewhat scary movie I watched. It's a great movie with an awesome life lesson and songs you can definitely sing along to. It's such a great holiday movie because you can watch it during the Halloween season as well as the Christmas season!

6. The Silence of the Lambs (1991)
The Silence of the Lambs is probably one of the creepiest movies I've ever seen. It will leave you on the edge of your seat during the suspenseful murder and cannibalism scenes throughout the movie. There are many moments that shock you and it's totally alright because you can't take your eyes off the screen!

5. Hotel Transylvania (2012)
Hotel Transylvania is a family friendly Halloween story where the monsters are afraid of the humans! A very different scenario than what we're used to! It's a feel good story that will make you fall in love with the monsters you were once afraid of and leave you with a warm feeling in your heart. The movie is so fun to watch and will leave you saying "blah blah blah" all day long! Hopefully the sequel is just as good!

4. Scream (1996)
Scream is the ultimate slasher movie. It makes you sweat buckets while you're waiting for the infamous masked killer to arrive. It's one of those films that will never ever get old. It's so iconic that kids wear the mask for Halloween and have no idea where it's from. It's honestly a must see at least once in your life, because how else will you understand Scary Movie?

3. Beetlejuice (1988)
I absolutely love this movie! Beetlejuice gives a creepy story about the dead a comedy twist. You find out what really happens on the other side as you follow Barbara and Adam in all their shenanigans alongside Betelgeuse (Beetlejuice). Although most people my age do not like this movie at all, I encourage everyone to give it a try! This classic horror comedy will leave a huge smile and catchy songs in your head!

2. The Lost Boys (1987)
Vampires. Vampires everywhere. The Lost Boys is a mixture of a horror film and classic 80's teen movie, like honestly what could be better? It's filled with attractive actors (who are now old and probably don't look anything like they did) and has enough gore to satisfy those blood thirsty film lovers (like myself). I encourage all vampire enthusiasts to watch this movie ASAP!

1. Hocus Pocus (1993)
Hocus Pocus. My number one favorite Halloween (or all-year) movie of all time! I grew up watching this Disney classic and am proud to say I can quote the entire movie. I usually don't watch Halloween movies until October, but this is the exception. I can watch it all year round and quote it on a daily basis. I even named my Halloween Pinterest board after a spell from the movie! The story follows Max, Dani, and Allison who have brought back the infamous Sanderson Sisters from the dead on Halloween night! Although Hocus Pocus is aimed for children, it's definitely a must watch for all ages!

Let me know what your favorite Halloween movies are in the comments below!
